The infrastructure for storing and transporting ammonia currently in place has reached a high level of maturity due to its extensive use as a feedstock for inorganic fertilizers. This has resulted in the development of a well-established global ammonia infrastructure with a significant amount of maritime trade. Ammonia is handled on a large scale at various ports around the world. This pre-existing port and shipping infrastructure could facilitate the early and expedited adoption of ammonia as an energy vector and fuel on a large scale. The largest refrigerated storage facilities for ammonia are often located at the ports where it is produced and then shipped internationally.
